Honolulu Civil Beat – Pulitzer Prize Finalist

Last summer, on Aug. 8, a series of small brush fires incinerated an entire town on the Hawaiian island of Maui. More than 100 people died, 2,200 structures were destroyed and over 6,000 locals were displaced.
Honolulu Civil Beat sent two teams of reporters the next day: Aug. 9, and produced some of the first reports on one of the deadliest fires in U.S. history.
The Pulitzer Prize panel honored the Hawaiian nonprofit newsroom with recognition as a finalist in the Breaking News category for 2024.
I am beyond proud to be joining Honolulu Civil Beat this summer.
