Boys, Boobs, and Doomscrolling
Gone are the days when boys bought their prom dates carnations. Now they stay home and undress their crush’s profile picture using a generative AI tool.
Boys alone with computer-generated boobs—how romantic.
I fear this is the way things are going. (By the way, I don’t mean to call out boys; the tech is impacting us all.) We are moving our minds and lives almost entirely online.
Is anything real when nothing feels real? Who knows—I probably just need more sleep.
There’s always one more YouTube video in the queue or Netflix show you’ve been meaning to get to or Substack piece you’ve wanted to publish—always, even at 1:30 in the morning on a Tuesday in late July.
But this is not healthy for us—we need sleep!

New Hot Book Genre: AI Science Fiction
Laila Lalami’s The Dream Hotel is a sci fi novel—and Pulitzer Finalist—set in 2039 in California. It follows a young mother who is detained at the airport and sent to a holding center where all the dreamers are being kept.
Data centers everywhere, algorithms deciding who looks suspicious, power hungry men seeking to dominate women, and more climate disasters. The one thing Sara, our main character, realizes she needs to make it through this life is SLEEP.
We must resist the urge to type and scroll all night. Stop staring at your screen! The blue lights, enticing emails, random Reddit post, new song on Spotify, article from The Atlantic—all of these things can wait!
A good night’s rest sets us up to have the best day possible—and who doesn’t want that?
PRACTICE: Next time you find yourself complaining before noon, ask yourself, did I get enough sleep last night? If the answer is no, you have no right to be angry with life or anyone else except yourself.
Zzzzzz Zzzzzz Zzzzzz Zzzzzz Zzzzzz
Sorry—dosed off for a second. Told you I need sleep!
Anyway, follow my newsletter if you’re interested in taking back your time—and spending less of it online. Also to see if I get more sleep next week.
